Thanksgiving Turkey Brine In A Home Depot Bucket
I’m not sure if Home Depot’s bright orange iconic buckets are food safe but they play a key role in my Thanksgiving turkey brine recipe. The recipe is a modified version of Alton Brown’s Roast Turkey recipe from Good Eats. Before starting make sure you can fit the bucket in your fridge.
1 Home Depot Homer’s All-Purpose Bucket
1 frozen turkey approx. 15 lbs. thawed
3 x 26 oz. Swanson Chicken Stock
2 cups kosher salt
½ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp whole black peppercorns
2 tsp whole allspice berries
tons of ice
While it cools place turkey into the bucket, cavity opening up, and surround with ice (not in the cavity if you can help it). You can also add some ice to the brine to help cool it down as well. Once the brine is at room temperature pour it into the cavity and let if overflow around the turkey. Add ice water until the turkey is completely submerged.
Once it has brined simply rinse off the bird thoroughly before roasting as you normally would.
